The buzz around the league in the preseason is that Welcoat's Joe Devance has got what it takes to be the league's only second ROY MVP. This after scoring 38 and 35 points in the team's first two preseason games against the Korean KT&G squad and the Talk N Text Phonepals. So far, he has been able to display his full arsenal of offensive skills: medium range jumpers, post-ups and three-point range. He really looks awesome, but curiously both explosive performances didn't result to wins by the Dragons. They were spanked by the visiting Korean team 91-94 and were blown off the court by the formidable Talk N Text Phonepals 109-123. Devance has the tendency to hog the ball too much. In the team's first two games only Devance and JR Reyes has been able to consistently provide scoring contribution, others were merely non-existent. In fact aside from the two frontliners, only rookie free agent Don Dulay has been able to finish in double figures in scoring in a game and we're not even sure if he makes the team. Devance needs support from his teammates in order to have a chance at an MVP plum. Well, even the ROY award is up for grabs if the Dragons continues to hug the cellar.
