Norwood happy with Hapee

People's Journal
October 1, 2007

BARRING a sudden change of heart, Gabe Norwood, the 6-foot-5 Fil-American who played for the all-pro Philippine team in the recent FIBA-Asian Championship in Japan, is all set to come back to the country and play for Hapee Toothpaste when the Philippine Basketball League opens shop on Oct. 20.

Hapee team manager Bernard Yang said Norwood was elated when informed that they made him the No. 1 pick in the recent PBL Rookie Entry Draft.

“He was delighted when I texted him that we made him the No. 1 pick,” said Yang. “My gut feel is that he is going to come back here.”

Hapee Toothpaste owner and incoming PBL chairman Dr. Cecilio Pedro is looking forward for a smooth and harmonious relationship with the high-flying import, believing he has what it takes to bring back the team to the Promised Land again.

“Dr. Pedro is happy with the recent developments and he’s hoping that Norwood will give us another crack at the championship,” said Yang.

Yang said he already discussed the team’s offer to Norwood but he refused to elaborate the financial package. Norwood, according to Yang, said he will still discuss the offer to his agent who is in Europe right now.“Pag-uusapan pa ng dalawa ang offer namin and it seems na mukhang okey naman si Norwood,” said Yang.
