THE Arthro Kontra Arthritis quintet preyed on the tired Duterte-Agilas Davao to tally its second win in six games, 104-91, in the 2007 MVBA Second Conference action held at the Cebu Coliseum Friday evening.
The Agilas fight was only good for the first seven minutes of the game and then flopped under the hot-shooting night of Arthro, as the team was sent packing home for Davao City still winless in its first six games in the Southern Philippines-based league.
After keeping the game close in the first five minutes, Alex Cainglet and Doroteo Almacin started to connect from the outside to put up a 25-18 Arthro lead after the first quarter.
The Agilas were able to bring the deficit down to five, 23-28, 39 seconds after the start of the second quarter before Arthro had another a 16-4 blitz for a 44-24 lead with 4:45 left.
The Davaoueños were able to cut down the deficit to 12, 40-52 at the close of the first half, but failed to cut down the lead further as Arthro continued to hit their marks from beyond the arc.
Visibly tired after playing for three straight nights, the Agilas crumbled in the final quarter and Arthro reinstalled a 20-point lead with a 9-1 burst early.
As Arthro feasted on fastbreaks, the Agilas only had three field goals from the 6:05 mark to the final 51.5 seconds as the Cebuanos enjoyed a 102-79 lead.
Wynsjohn Te scored two meaningless triples, while Jay Sagad added two jumpers as the Agilas winded a 12-2 run for the final tally.
Almacin topped Arthro with 17 markers, while guard Art Atablanco led the Agilas with 15 points.
On Monday, the Arthro will try to repeat over the Cebu Landmasters at its homecourt, the Mandaue City Sports and Cultural Complex.
