MVBA: Jewelers win over Holcim in OT, 81-76

M. Lhuillier Kwarta Padala-Cebu City needed an extra five minutes to dispose of Holcim Pryce Pharma-MisOr, 81-76, in the continuation of the 2007 Mindanao Visayas Basketball Association (MVBA) Second Conference on Friday night at the Digos City Stadium.

The league said Saturday that Woodrow Enriquez scored six of M. Lhuillier's 10 points in overtime, including a three-point play with 2:11 left that put the Jewelers ahead for good, 75-73.

MisOr threatened for the last time on a drive by Dennis Concha, 75-77, but Enriquez
quickly cooled MisOr with a pair of free throws off Mark Moreño with 23 ticks remaining, 79-75.

M. Lhuillier then sent Mark Abadia to the foul line with 16 seconds to go, but he could only make the first with Bruce Dacia grabbing the defensive rebound off the second attempt. Dacia was quickly fouled by Nathaniel Cruz, making both his shots for the final tally.

Earlier, Concha sent the game into overtime via an easy under-goal stab off a drop pass from Anton Viloria with three seconds left in regulation. That capped a furious windup that saw MisOr rally from seven points down with 2:45 in the balance, 63-70, limiting M. Lhuillier to a single free throw by Dacia at the 10-second mark.

Enriquez led M. Lhuillier with 16 points followed by Dacia with 13 and Basco with 12. Viloria topped MisOr with 19 markers while Cruz and Lowell Briones chipped in 11 each. M. Lhuillier thus raised its win-loss record to 2-1 in the community-based league.

M. Lhuillier was playing the MP Warriors-GenSan at the Digos City Stadium Saturday night.

The wards of Michel Lhuillier and Coach Raul Alcoseba end their Mindanao tour Sunday when they visit the Duterte Davao Agilas at the Almendras Gym starting at 6 p.m.

The Agilas of Mayor Rodrigo Duterte will finally make their MVBA debut and will have former PBA player Ferdinand Pastor as its head coach. Coach Pastor will parade a team composed of local talents led by veteran guard Bob Cozy Ilanga. - GMANews.TV
