MVBA 2nd conference opens today
Host team Cebu Landmasters-Mandaue will play the returning MP Warriors-GenSan following a short opening ceremony, graced by boxing superstar and Warriors team owner Manny Pacquiao.
Aside from Pacquiao, the officials of the BAP-SBP, Region 7 regional director Raul Alcoseba and Cebu provincial head Lorenzo “Chao” Sy, will also attend the opening rites.
Both the Landmasters and the Warriors are come backing teams following it’s one-conference leave of absence.
However, the Landmasters, owned by Joe Soberano and Mayor Jonas Cortes, have the edge in this game following its conquest of the recently concluded MVBA Hotel Fortuna Cup last Sept.6.
Coach Jun Tan has organized a very formidable line-up with ex-pro Jimwell Torion manning the point guard position together with Mike Manigo and Jun Gabica.
The wing players are also composed of a tough players led by Bong Marata, Aldrin Ocañada, Richard Ian Saladaga, Aries Gloria and Abe Galinato.
The center and power forward positions are made up of Jan Montalbo, Angelus Raymundo, Mark Yee, Rex Mangubat and Alfie Grijaldo.
The MP Warriors, on the other hand, will parade the same roster that won them the Mindanao Division title last year.
The team, led by Mindanao MVP Louie Medalla,will still have Apol Coronado, Jethrone Recustodio, Donald Tadena, Rolly Menor, Weng Farochillen and Jeffy Locsin.
Other participating teams in the MVBA are 2007 First Conference Champion Holcim Pryce Pharma-MisOr, M. Lhuillier Kwarta Padala-Cebu, Duterte-Davao Agilas, Montana Pawnshop, West Negros College-Bacolod and Arthro Kontra Arthritis of Jonathan Guardo.
