Siot Tanquincen

Magnolia likes what they are seeing with this guy... he's officially SMC's "Mr. Fix-it"... he's earned the reputation for his "miraculous" work with Brgy Ginebra and San Miguel.

Prior to his ascencion from the headcoaching post, he was among the assistant coaches of Brgy Ginebra from 2002-04. When Allan Caidic was relegated as the team manager, he was appointed head coach and didn't disappoint. After a 0-6 start with Ginebra, he brought the team back to life, carrying the Gin Kings to the 2004 PBA Fiesta Conference crown. Last year, however, when coach Jong Uichico was named as the new head coach of the Barangay Ginebra Kings, he was demoted as Uichico's assistant. When coach Chot Reyes was appointed national team coach just this year, he was sent back to San Miguel as an interim coach. Under Tanquincen, the Beermen would struggle with six straight defeat, but just as his experience with Brgy. Ginebra, Tanquincen would carry the Beermen back to the grove of things, earning the tag "miracle team" for their never-say-die attitude. They strung up 8 straight wins before hitting the roadbreak in the semis against eventual champion Alaska Aces.

Tanquincen was one of the role players for the UST Tigers in their historic three-peat from 1993-1996 under head coach Aric Del Rosario. His teammates were no less than Chris Cantonjos, Estong Ballesteros, Rey Evangelista, Dennis Espino, Bal David, Udoy Belmonte, and Patrick Fran.

He was never drafted by any team in the PBA Draft. He played for the Beermen from 1997-1998. In 1999, he joined his former UST mentor Del Rosario in the MBA's Pampanga Dragons. When he understood he couldn't cut it as a player, he wisely took up coaching, a decision he will not regretting later on.
