Derrick Pumaren

A great X and O coach but he seems to lack great motivational skills to somehow bring out the best in his players… in his more than a decade of coaching, has led only one team (Pop Cola) to a title… in 1995, he led Sunkist to a near Grand Slam, winning two import-flavored conferences and falling short in the All Filipino… fared miserably in his coaching stint with Purefoods, Pepsi, Sta. Lucia and Magnolia… played for the national team in several international meets… never made it into the PBA as a player… basketball is a tradition in the family… brother Dindo a.k.a. the Bullet has played for him at Purefoods and Pepsi and is one of the PBA’s best point guards ever… another brother is Franz who has played for San Miguel and Sta. Lucia, and is a fixture as an assistant coach in the PBA and as champion coach in the UAAP (DLSU)… father is Pilo Pumaren who coached San Miguel in the early years.
